Caleb Williams delivers two late touchdowns as Chicago stuns Green Bay and tightens the NFC North race

The Chicago Bears erased a 10-point fourth-quarter deficit to defeat the Green Bay Packers 22–16 in overtime during Week 16 at Soldier Field in Chicago, Illinois. The comeback was sealed by a recovered onside kick and a walk-off touchdown pass in overtime.

How Chicago forced overtime

Chicago trailed by 10 points with 5:03 remaining in regulation.

An onside kick recovery by Josh Blackwell inside the final two minutes gave the Bears an extra possession. Quarterback Caleb Williams capitalized, throwing a touchdown pass to Jahdae Walker with 24 seconds left to force overtime.

The overtime walk-off

Chicago ended the game on its first overtime drive.

Williams connected with DJ Moore on a 46-yard touchdown strike, immediately closing the game and igniting the Soldier Field crowd.

Impact on NFC North standings

The win improved Chicago to 11–4. Green Bay dropped to 9–5–1.

Chicago remains firmly positioned in the NFC North race and reduced its division-clinching magic number to one. One additional win secures the division title.

What the result means for the Detroit Lions

The outcome tightened the postseason outlook for the Detroit Lions.

Detroit entered the weekend at 8–6 and no longer controls its own playoff destiny. The Lions must now combine wins with favorable results from Chicago, Green Bay, or San Francisco.

Detroit Lions playoff scenarios

Detroit’s remaining path is narrow but remains open.

  • If Detroit finishes 11–6, the Lions qualify with losses by Chicago, Green Bay, or San Francisco.
  • If Detroit finishes 10–7, Green Bay must lose its final two games.
  • A division title is possible only if Detroit wins out and both Chicago and Green Bay lose key matchups.

Remaining schedules that affect the race

Several late-season matchups will decide the NFC North.

  • Detroit Lions: vs. Pittsburgh, at Minnesota, at Chicago
  • Chicago Bears: at San Francisco, vs. Detroit
  • Green Bay Packers: vs. Baltimore, at Minnesota
  • San Francisco 49ers: at Indianapolis, vs. Chicago, vs. Seattle
